Why blog?

Fighting burnout

I push myself as much as I push my students, and recently I have experienced a massive burnout. To combat this, and create an outlet for my creativity, I decided to start a blog.

Becoming a better teacher

For me, it’s an opportunity to become a better teacher and to engage properly again. I’m more invested in trialling and perfecting ideas which are about to be published, seeing things with new eyes wherever I can, and trying to help other teachers to be inspired by how fun and new teaching English can be. Also, I try to keep my ideas quite simple but effective, and receiving feedback from others who have tried them with different results will help me to keep growing and learning which is what every teacher should regularly do.

Becoming less isolated

I work in a small school and, given our busy timetables, the opportunities to bounce ideas off colleagues are few and far between. Writing this blog will hopefully enable me to have contact with other inspired teachers, to discuss new techniques and share ideas.

Becoming more disciplined and organized

I think even the most driven people can procrastinate, so blogging forces me to become more disciplined – to create a plan, sit down and produce content every week which is just the motivation and stimulation I need. It also enables me to keep my ideas in one place that I can access easily and quickly.

Giving back

It’s a way to give back. For years I’ve been reading other people’s blogs and websites and using their ideas without so much as a brief note to say thanks. This is my way to give thanks to all these hard working bloggers who have shared their work without asking for anything in return.
